They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, and it might be true… just not for me! For my first date with Geoff (eleven years ago now!) we baked snickerdoodles together. I thought it was a really fun evening (and it resulted in some delicious cookies!) but apparently Geoff felt differently. He told me later that he almost decided not to call me again while we were cooking, because I was so bossy and “know-it-all-ish.” (What can I say? I’m a girl who knows how she likes her cookies!) Luckily, we ended up talking until late that night, getting to know each other, and the rest is history. After almost ten years of marriage, we actually manage to bake together now without killing each other. 🙂
I’m still adjusting to our new schedule… working part time, keeping up with the blog, and running after two little girls often results in an exhausted, cranky mom at the end of the day, and poor Geoff has to put up with my crabbiness. In any case, I know I can always win Geoff back with a nice chocolatey treat, and these brownies are perfect for that! What better way to say “I love you” than with baked goods? I’m pretty sure they’re my love language.
1 cup butter, melted 1/2 cup cocoa 2 cups flour 2 cups sugar 4 eggs 4 teaspoons vanilla
Preheat oven to 350. Mix together melted butter and cocoa until smooth. Add flour and sugar, and mix until combined.Add eggs and vanilla and mix until just combined. Do not over stir. Pour into greased, floured 9×13 baking pan. Bake 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted 2 inches from the edge comes out clean. Allow to cool about ten minutes before frosting.
Chocolate Frosting
1/4 cup softened butter 1/4 cup milk 1/4 cup cocoa 3 cups powdered sugar dash of salt
How cute are these heart shaped brownies!! My hubby love chocolate, too. Unfortunately, I'm still guilty of being bossy/nervous while in the kitchen with even my most loved ones. Control is something I'm working on and trying to let go of! :/ It sounds like you're a busy gal, but I'm sure you're doing a good job of trying to balance it all. 🙂 Blessings, Leslie
This recipe didn't work out too well for me. The brownies were too dry and very sweet even without the full amount of sugar called for. Though the icing was good.
I'll have to try these after I finish all of my bread goals you caused me to have!!! =)

Do you just use a cookie cutter to make them into hearts? It doesn't say how to make them heart shaped.
