Thanksgiving is right around the corner, which means it’s time to get excited about all things pie related! In my husband’s family, his sister in law Jill is famous for her pies, and usually makes at least 5 different pies for each Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. Since she loves making pies (and her pies are always delicious) the rest of us have pretty much delegated that task to her. Because I always had Jill around to meet all of my pie related needs, I never really bothered to learn how to make pie myself. And then we moved to Oregon, and I realized that if I wanted delicious homemade pie, I was going to have to make it myself.
I have to admit, I am such a pie novice that I had never even made my own homemade pie crust until about two and a half years ago! Since then, I’ve been working on making better pies, and improving bit by bit. I still wouldn’t call myself a pie master by any means, but I’ve got some great recipes under my belt now, and I feel reasonably confident about tackling basic pies.
