We’re officially in that late summer/early fall time period, when it’s impossible to figure out what season it is! It’s chilly in the morning, but hot in the afternoon, and every time you get in the car, you’re annoyed to find either the air conditioning or the heater blasting because you need the opposite. 🙂 I have the perfect dessert for this exact in-betweeny time of year! These peach streusel cinnamon rolls are the perfect way to enjoy the sweet late summer fruit, but they’re also so cozy and comforting that they’re perfect on a chilly morning. They’re the best of both worlds!

These peach cinnamon rolls are a twist on my new favorite cinnamon roll recipe! I was craving something sweet and baked recently, and noticed some fresh peaches on the counter threatening to go bad. And it occurred to me – why not incorporate the peaches into some delicious cinnamon rolls. The result was even better than I had hoped! The cinnamon rolls are so light, sweet, and fluffy, and the peaches add so much delicious flavor. The streusel topping takes them over the top and adds a delicious sweet crunch!

These cinnamon rolls are best when they’re warm and fresh from the oven. Because they have fresh fruit in them, I would recommend refrigerating any leftovers and then warming them up again when you want to serve them. The peaches can make the rolls a little soggy over time, so I would recommend eating them within 2-3 days of baking. These peach cinnamon rolls are a delicious and homey breakfast or dessert, and easy to make too!

Prep Time:15 minutes
Cook Time:25 minutes
Rise Time:1 hour 30 minutes
Total Time:2 hours 10 minutes

for the dough:

  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg plus 1 egg yolk
  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups bread flour more as needed

for the filling:

  • 1/4 cup butter softened
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 medium peaches peeled, pitted, and chopped

for the streusel:

  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

  • In a large bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer, whisk together the warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let the mixture sit until foamy and bubbly. Add the egg, egg yolk, melted butter, and salt, and mix to combine. Add half of the bread flour, mix, and continue to add the flour, 1/4 cup at a time, to form a soft dough. Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and pliable. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 60-90 minutes, until doubled in size.
  • After the dough has risen, gently punch it down and roll it out into a 14 by 9 inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface. To make the filling, beat the butter until light and fluffy. Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla, and beat until smooth. Spread the filling mixture over the dough in an even layer, leaving about one inch uncovered on one of the short sides. Sprinkle the fresh peaches over the top of the cinnamon sugar mixture in an even layer. Roll the dough up, starting from the opposite short side, and place the roll seam side down to seal it. Cut off the ends of the roll, then cut the dough into nine equal slices. Place the cinnamon rolls into a greased 9 x 9 baking dish, cover, and let rise for 30-45 minutes.
  • Toward the end of the rise time, preheat the oven to 350. To make the streusel, whisk the flour, sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon together with a fork in a small bowl. Drizzle in the melted butter and whisk until the butter is blended in and the mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle the streusel over the tops of the cinnamon rolls. Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
