This sweet and rich baked eggnog French toast is easy to prep ahead of time, and so simple to make. It’s the perfect holiday breakfast!

I’ve mentioned before that I’m not huge on cooking breakfast. My older kids are good at figuring out their own breakfasts in the morning, and my littles are happy with frozen waffles or plain cereal. I definitely make an exception for holidays, though! It’s so nice to have a nice breakfast or brunch together on special days. Since I don’t want to spend the whole morning in the kitchen, though, I usually go for something I can prep ahead of time. This baked eggnog French toast is the perfect holiday breakfast! It’s so quick and easy to prep ahead of time, and tastes amazing.

I’ve made lots of variations on baked French toast in the past (this blueberry streusel baked French toast and baked pumpkin French toast are some of my favorites), and this eggnog version is just as delicious as the rest. The eggnog makes it extra rich and lightly sweetened, and the flavor is perfect without being overpowering.

If you want a gold star, you can make this french toast with homemade French bread, like I do frequently. If you’re not up to the extra effort, though, it works wonderfully with store-bought bread. Feel free to branch out and use Texas toast or brioche bread instead.

Like my other baked French toast recipes, this one freezes wonderfully. I prepare the recipe as usual, then divide the bread and the egg mixture between two round foil cake pans. Next, I cover them with plastic wrap and foil, put it on a baking sheet, and freeze them. Once they’re frozen solid, I put them in gallon size freezer bags and write the recipe, date, and instructions on the front. When I’m ready to bake, I just remove the coverings, preheat the oven to 350, and pop it in the oven for 60-70 minutes. It’s every bit as delicious as when it’s made fresh!

Ingredients
- 1 loaf french bread
- 8 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 cup eggnog
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Grease a 9 x 13 baking dish and set aside. Cut the french bread into 1 inch cubes and place in the prepared baking dish. In a large bowl or measuring cup, whisk together the eggs, milk, eggnog, sugar, vanilla, and nutmeg. Pour the mixture over the bread pieces. Cover with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate for several hours or overnight.
- When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350. Bake 45-55 minutes, or until the french toast only jiggles slightly when shaken and is golden brown on top. Let cool for 10-15 minutes, then dust with powdered sugar and serve.
