Who else loves a good homemade pizza night? (I mean, really, who doesn’t?) I’ve made all sorts of variations of homemade pizza over the years, from pretzel pizza to breakfast pizza to pizza pockets. It’s safe to say that we are big pizza fans over here. This sheet pan pizza is our current obsession, and it has so much going for it! It’s easy to make, easy to customize, and comes out of the oven crispy and cheesy and all around delicious. What more could a pizza lover want?

I think the key to great pizza is starting with a good homemade pizza dough and a flavorful pizza sauce. My homemade sauce is so easy to make (no cooking required) and I like to make a huge batch and freeze it in 1 cup portions so it’s easy to pull out whenever I’m in the mood for pizza. For cheese, mozzarella is a must, but I also like to add a sprinkle of parmesan on top of the pizza because it helps the cheese brown. When I’m feeling extra fancy, I mix in some muenster with the mozzarella. It’s delicious no matter what!

Because none of us can agree on our pizza toppings, I usually do half cheese and half whatever I’m craving that day. This week it was bacon and olives, but really the sky is the limit with toppings! (Except corn. I have to draw the line somewhere.)

The end result is a crispy crust loaded with gooey cheese and toppings, hot from the oven and totally irresistible! This sheet pan pizza is a favorite at our house, and I hope you’ll give it a try too!

Total Time:55 minutes

Ingredients

for the crust:

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon yeast
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 – 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

to assemble the pizza:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 pound mozzarella cheese
  • toppings of your choice meats, vegetables, etc
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 500.
  • In a large bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer, mix the yeast into the warm water. Let sit for 5-10 minutes, until foamy. Add the olive oil, salt, and 2 cups of flour, and mix to combine. Add additional flour, 1/4 cup at a time, to form a soft and pliable dough. Place the dough in a greased bowl and let rise for at least 20 minutes.
  • When ready to bake the pizza, drizzle the olive oil on a sheet pan, spreading to cover evenly. Gently roll out the dough into a rectangle and place on the pan. Let the dough rest for ten minutes, then gently stretch it into the corners of the pan.
  • Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the top of the dough, leaving about an inch around the edges. Brush the edges of the dough with olive oil. Sprinkle the cheese over the top of the dough, then top with desired toppings. Sprinkle the parmesan cheese over the top evenly.
  • Bake 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and lightly browned.
  • Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately transfer to a cooling rack to prevent the bottom crust from getting soggy.
